The Icebreaker Tarmo

The Tarmo (finnish: drive, energy) ist the oldest preserved icebreaker of the world. She was built 1907 at the Walker Shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne and arrived to Finland in January 1908. During more than 80 years she kept Finnish shipping lanes open and supported up to 450 ships a  year on their journey through the polar ice. Since 1992, the Tarmo is moored in the harbour of Kotka and accessible as a museum ship.
